Requisite sabre post

Hello everyone, this is Lesley! New sabre J1s for the win, so in case no-one told you these things, this is all for your reference:
  1. Oil your sabres regularly (once a month is very advisable especially for China sabres, these things rust like no-one's business) to prevent them from rusting. You can use cooking oil but I like WD-40. Keep your blades covered if you're not using them to prevent rust!!
  2. Do not put your lamé in the washing machine - you can (and should) hand-wash it under the shower but do not apply any friction to the surface whatsoever.
  3. Try to understand the rules of priority as fast as you can and constantly keep them in mind while you're training. It makes competitions and free fencing a lot easier and more fun!
  4. Get used to wearing full gear. I cannot emphasize this enough especially since Clementi has no air-con and sabre fencers have to wear the lamé over the jacket.
I can't think of anything else, so I'll leave you with that! In the meantime, I hope someone makes a similar post for the new épée fencers (because I'm obviously not qualified to do that).

NOVICES 2011

Thank you to everyone who came down to support us at the Novices this year!! All the fencers fought hard at the competition despite falling sick, having competing OGL duties and recovering from fevers/flus/etc. The blood, sweat and tears was worth it - Team A's sabre girls won the bronze in the women's sabre team event!!

Requisite team photo!

From here onwards, make sure you guys keep in top form for the Nationals in April (I know most of the fencers don't read this blog. This should change when our juniors come in).

Because people have been asking, this is what I do at home to increase the length of my lunges:
1. Stretch at home. Follow all the simple stretching exercises that Bleong gets us to do.
2. Lunge in the living room - ensure that your arm is fully outstretched just before the lunge is complete. Make sure you practise this at the actual speed at which you'll be fencing during matches, or you're just going to be training yourself to lunge very slowly.
3. Practise with a run-up (ie. step forward lunges).

Your lunges should get longer. After this you can work on making use of the lunges during a match. FREE FENCE MORE!!

BLOG REVAMP

Hello everyone, this is Lesley.

This is the first time I'm posting here (I only just figured out how to log in)! Just to let everyone know, I decided to give our blog a revamp and make it more obvious that this is a fencing blog and not some other random blog. I'll replace the photograph at the top with a newer one of all of us after Novices - I know that some people were missing from FM Open last year, including our captain.

9 more days to Novices!! Hope everyone's drinking lots of water.

HELLO EVERYONE.

It's the holidays now!!!
okay i'm not sure about the J1s but anyway, for any newbies coming to vj who wants to join fencing, you can ask any questions you want at the tagboard. :D :D :D

And. This blog is almost dead. -.-''
i shall strive to keep it alive.

So, what is gonna happen recently is this smu competition or something organized by coach. It's optional as to whether or not to participate in it and there's a competition fee of about $40. i think it's held in the something of december. It's a 2 digit with 1 at the front so it's 1_ of december.

Okay you can't trust my memory.
And then, at the start of the year, March or something, coach is planning some malaysia trip to fence at the competition there. If i didn't get it wrong...

I suppose that's it. Enjoy your holidays.

EXAMS ARE OVER.

Exams over!!! YAY.
Coach is overseas currently and there's no CCA this friday. Oh which is today. Bryan Leong and some others are probably playing badminton or something today.
WE SHOULD HAVE BONDING SESSION SOMETIME SOON. And prepare a proper farewell for the J2s. Okay. I'd better go back to my workshop. The guy's looking. BYE!
