- Oil your sabres regularly (once a month is very advisable especially for China sabres, these things rust like no-one's business) to prevent them from rusting. You can use cooking oil but I like WD-40. Keep your blades covered if you're not using them to prevent rust!!
- Do not put your lamé in the washing machine - you can (and should) hand-wash it under the shower but do not apply any friction to the surface whatsoever.
- Try to understand the rules of priority as fast as you can and constantly keep them in mind while you're training. It makes competitions and free fencing a lot easier and more fun!
- Get used to wearing full gear. I cannot emphasize this enough especially since Clementi has no air-con and sabre fencers have to wear the lamé over the jacket.
I can't think of anything else, so I'll leave you with that! In the meantime, I hope someone makes a similar post for the new épée fencers (because I'm obviously not qualified to do that).
